Legal Counsel – Regulatory & Complaints

About the role

The College of Nursing of New Brunswick (CNNB) seeks a qualified Legal Counsel to support its complaints and discipline processes. Reporting to the Director of Complaints & General Counsel, the role blends independent legal analysis with collaborative guidance to ensure procedural fairness and public protection.

Key responsibilities

• Assist General Counsel in overseeing complaints and disciplinary proceedings.
• Provide legal guidance to staff on Rules of Procedure, administrative best practices, and professional regulation.
• Advise the Complaints Committee and prepare consent agreements, alternative resolution proposals, and joint submissions.
• Prosecute complaints before Discipline and Fitness to Practice Committees, including drafting submissions and conducting hearings.
• Coordinate expert consultations and independent medical evaluations as needed.
• Maintain awareness of jurisdictional trends and best‑practice initiatives in regulated professions.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) with at least five years of practising law.
• Member in good standing or eligible for membership with the Law Society of New Brunswick.
• Fluent written and verbal communication in English and French.
• Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict‑resolution abilities.
• Capacity to manage multiple confidential files and high‑stress situations.

Required skills

• Experience in prosecutions, administrative law, or professional regulation.
