Legal Counsel - Employment and Litigation

About the role

The Legal Counsel – Employment and Litigation will join the Office of the General Counsel and Board Secretariat at Toronto Metropolitan University. Reporting to the General Counsel, Secretary of the Board of Governors and Chief Privacy Officer, the role provides comprehensive legal support across employment, labour, administrative, human‑rights and privacy matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide a full range of legal services related to employment law, workplace and labour matters, administrative law, litigation, human rights, access and privacy law, and dispute resolution.
• Advise senior leaders, faculties, schools and administrative units on legal risks and strategies.
• Support the University’s strategic and operational initiatives with expert legal guidance.
• Collaborate with the General Counsel, Board Secretariat and Chief Privacy Officer to ensure compliance with university policies and regulatory obligations.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to deliver expert legal support to senior university leaders and various academic and administrative units.
• Experience handling employment‑related legal matters, litigation, and privacy or human‑rights issues.
