Legal Counsel Advisor

About the role

TransUnion Canada is looking for a Legal Counsel Advisor to deliver legal services that ensure the company’s business practices, policies and operations comply with regulatory requirements such as PIPEDA and consumer‑reporting legislation. The role involves providing strategic legal advice across the organization while protecting the company from legal risk.

Key responsibilities

• Provide counsel and legal support to business units on complex legal matters that may significantly impact operations.
• Act as counsel for all contractual matters requiring legal review and draft or negotiate agreements.
• Interpret, prepare and review legal documents, and render opinions on issues faced by TransUnion and its subsidiaries.
• Advise management on changes to the law and ensure compliance with administrative, consumer reporting and privacy legislation.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks, support multiple and often conflicting priorities, and travel as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor of civil and/or common law.
• 3‑5 years of experience practising law.
• Member of the local law society and fully licensed to practice in Canada.
• Bilingual English/French preferred.
• Knowledge of administrative law, consumer‑reporting legislation, privacy legislation, litigation and corporate commercial law.
• Strong organizational, advocacy, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively at all levels of the organization and manage rapidly changing priorities.
• Excellent negotiation skills.
