About the role

The Legal Services Division of Alberta Justice is looking for a Legal Assistant to support the Constitutional and Aboriginal Law Team in Edmonton. This full‑time, temporary position offers the chance to work closely with lawyers, prepare legal documents, and manage files in a dynamic public‑service environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare, format, and edit court documents, letters, memos, agreements, briefs, factums and other legal materials based on lawyers’ instructions.
  • Upload and process documents in the Action Request Tracking System (ARTS).
  • Maintain and organize electronic and paper filing systems, including opening, closing, and uploading files in the Prolaw system.
  • Prepare physical files for transfer to or retrieval from the Alberta Records Center.
  • Liaise with clients, counsel, and stakeholders to manage case files.
  • Collaborate with multiple lawyers and other legal assistants in a team‑oriented setting.

Required profile

  • Excellent interpersonal and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written or verbal instructions accurately.
  • Experience working in a legal or administrative environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively.

Required skills

  • Prolaw case‑management system.
  • Action Request Tracking System (ARTS).
  • Document preparation and formatting.
  • Electronic and physical filing procedures.
