Lawyer – General Counsel Office (Risk Management)

About the role

Miller Thomson is seeking a Lawyer to join its General Counsel Office and support risk management and compliance across the firm. The role involves advising senior leadership, developing policies, and providing guidance on ethics and regulatory matters.

Key responsibilities

• Support the General Counsel with compliance, ethics and regulatory issues.
• Research risk‑management and ethics questions and prepare memoranda.
• Draft, update and maintain firm‑wide risk‑related policies.
• Provide legal advice to firm management and leadership.
• Deliver professional‑development training on risk management.
• Review and comment on contracts with vendors.
• Answer ethics and risk‑management queries from firm members.
• Participate in special projects and other duties as required.

Required profile

• Licensed LLB/JD and in good standing.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in risk management at a large law firm, in‑house, or equivalent.
• Bilingual in English and French.
• Strong analytical, research and judgment skills.
• Ability to work independently with high accuracy, confidentiality and professionalism.
• Working knowledge of the Rules of Professional Conduct.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Understanding of large‑law‑firm processes and various practice areas.
• Effective time‑management and ability to manage multiple projects.
• Familiarity with business governance, ownership models and structures.
