About the role
The Mental Health Support Worker provides wrap‑around services for accused persons with developmental disabilities or mental health issues at the Kenora Justice Centre. Reporting to the CEO of the Canadian Mental Health Association Kenora Branch, the role supports restorative justice and aims to reduce recidivism.
Key responsibilities
- Accept and track referrals, providing court diversion and support services for participants with mental health or developmental concerns.
- Attend court proceedings, liaise with criminal‑justice personnel, and ensure clients receive appropriate legal advice and accommodations.
- Develop, monitor, and communicate individualized service plans, coordinating with community resources and case managers.
- Conduct risk assessments, provide supportive counselling, and advocate within forensic mental‑health systems.
- Maintain confidential client files, collect statistical data, and prepare reports for the Ministry of Attorney General.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, training, and health‑and‑safety initiatives.
Required profile
- Degree in social work (MSW preferred) and registration with OCSWSSW.
- In‑depth knowledge of the criminal justice system and the Mental Health Act.
- Understanding of mental health issues, developmental disabilities, FASD, and acquired brain injury.
- Strong screening, assessment, and advocacy abilities.
- Experience building community linkages and delivering individualized services.
