Internal Medicine Specialist (Medical Specialist)

About the role

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) seeks qualified Internal Medicine Specialists to deliver high‑quality acute and critical care to CAF members both in Canada and on deployed operations. As a member of the Medical Specialist occupation, you will work in civilian tertiary hospitals, CAF health clinics, and field hospitals, providing direct patient care and mentorship to a broad range of military health providers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide consultative and direct patient care for CAF members across Canada.
• Lead intensive‑care teams managing injured or ill patients in both domestic and deployed settings.
• Deliver in‑transport medical care during evacuations back to Canada.
• Educate and advise multidisciplinary teams on acute and critical care medicine.
• Maintain clinical readiness through a civilian hospital appointment.
• Contribute to CAF health‑care policy development and implementation.

Required profile

• Member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with an unrestricted licence to practice Internal Medicine in a Canadian province or territory.
• Willingness to participate in annual military skills training and field exercises.
• Ability to work in diverse clinical environments, including overseas deployments.
