Internal Auditor

About the role

The Internal Audit Division of the City of Mississauga seeks a qualified Internal Auditor to lead and execute complex audit assurance and advisory engagements. The role supports the division’s mission to provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services across the municipality.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, conduct, and report on audits in line with the Internal Audit Charter, professional standards, and corporate policies.
• Develop audit programs, assess risks, define scope, and evaluate internal controls.
• Perform fieldwork, testing, and documentation to ensure evidence quality and consistency.
• Prepare comprehensive audit reports with observations, conclusions, and actionable recommendations.
• Present findings to management and the Audit Committee and support follow‑up on audit recommendations.
• Provide consulting services on risk assessment, control systems, and policy changes.

Required profile

• University degree in a business‑related discipline.
• Professional accounting/auditing designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA, CIA, or CISA) preferred.
• Minimum three years of progressive audit experience, preferably in an internal audit environment.
• Strong knowledge of auditing principles, practices, and standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
