Intern Engineer – IMDD Transmission Over Hollow-Core Fiber

About the role
Working on next‑generation short‑reach and data‑center interconnect networks, focusing on the design and simulation of Intensity‑Modulated Direct‑Detection (IMDD) transmission systems over Hollow‑Core Fiber (HCF).
Key responsibilities
- Model end‑to‑end non‑coherent optical transmission systems, incorporating transmitter, fiber, and receiver components.
- Model Hollow‑Core Fiber characteristics and evaluate the impact of gas absorption on signal transmission.
- Explore efficient signaling formats and equalization techniques to mitigate channel‑induced fading profiles.
- Study the effects of high launch power on system reach and overall performance.
Required profile
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Solid background in non‑coherent optical fiber transmission and reception, including system design concepts.
- Deep understanding of direct‑detection systems, transceiver limitations, and noise sources such as RIN, thermal noise, and shot noise.
- Proficiency in programming with Matlab and/or Python for modeling and simulation tasks.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A record of publications on related topics is considered an asset.
