Intermediate/Senior Geotechnical Field Technician (SW Ontario)

About the role

DS Consultants Ltd., a BluMetric company, is looking for an Intermediate or Senior Geotechnical Field Technician to join its Cambridge office. The role offers the chance to work on a variety of civil engineering projects, combining field, office, and laboratory tasks while developing technical expertise in geotechnical investigations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct site inspections, material sampling, and in‑situ testing of soil, asphalt, and concrete using a nuclear gauge.
• Perform laboratory testing, data collection, and supervision of general geotechnical work on projects ranging from low to high complexity.
• Identify soil and rock types, assist junior staff, and prepare detailed field reports.
• Ensure all health and safety practices are followed during field and office activities.

Required profile

• Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Technologist diploma or Civil Engineering degree.
• Three or more years of experience in geotechnical field inspections.
• Familiarity with MTO, ASTM, and OPSS testing procedures and local municipal specifications.
• Valid Ontario driver’s licence and reliable vehicle.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lb and work independently with minimal supervision.

Required skills

• Proficiency with common geotechnical software.
• Material testing of soil, asphalt, and concrete, including use of nuclear gauge.
• Soil and rock identification techniques.
• Microsoft Office suite for reporting and data analysis.
