Human Resources Coordinator

About the role

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at UBC is seeking a Human Resources Coordinator to provide administrative oversight of complex HR functions. This fixed‑term, 18‑month leave‑replacement role supports faculty, staff, and student employees across recruitment, onboarding, payroll, and collective‑agreement administration.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate departmental HR operations, including appointments, reappointments, promotions, and tenure processes.
• Administer teaching assistant appointments and manage Workday HR transactions.
• Provide confidential advice on HR policies, collective agreements, and legislative requirements.
• Liaise with the Dean’s office, central HR, Faculty Relations, Payroll, and IT to ensure seamless HR service delivery.
• Maintain accurate employee lifecycle records and support payroll administration.

Required profile

• Experience in HR administration within an academic or large‑organization setting.
• Strong knowledge of collective‑agreement administration and HR policies.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to handle confidential information.
• Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
