Housekeeping Aide

About the role

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Housekeeping Aide to join the Environmental Services team at Vancouver General Hospital. The role supports a safe, clean environment for patients, staff, visitors and families in a fast‑paced healthcare setting.

Key responsibilities

• Dusting, dry and wet mopping of floors, and floor maintenance/refinishing using appropriate equipment.
• Cleaning and disinfecting ceilings, walls, vents, washrooms, beds, furniture and medical equipment.
• Collecting and removing regular and biomedical waste, handling spill clean‑up, and managing garbage and recycling.
• Making beds and maintaining overall facility cleanliness in line with organizational policies.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 10 education or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Physical ability to perform cleaning duties and operate related equipment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively, organize tasks and follow safety procedures.

Required skills

• Operation of floor maintenance and refinishing equipment.
• Use of cleaning and disinfecting chemicals and tools.
• Handling and disposal of biomedical waste according to regulations.
