Horticulture Greenhouse Supervisor

About the role

The City of Hamilton is seeking a Horticulture Greenhouse Supervisor to lead operations and maintenance of the Gage Park production and tropical greenhouses. Reporting to the Superintendent of Horticulture, you will ensure a safe, productive environment while supporting citywide horticultural programs.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, schedule and supervise staff for greenhouse production, pest management, plant propagation and environmental control.
• Manage budgets, cost control, capital project estimates and contractor performance for greenhouse projects.
• Monitor and troubleshoot greenhouse systems, including heating, ventilation, irrigation and building envelope issues.
• Maintain accurate records of environmental conditions, plant inventories, equipment and supplies.
• Support floral show development and design of decorative displays for civic events.

Required profile

• Diploma in Horticulture or equivalent education and experience.
• Extensive experience in commercial greenhouse operations and project management.
• Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to ensure compliance with health, safety, legislative and union requirements.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint.
• Experience using Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems and ArcGIS.
• Technical knowledge of greenhouse environmental controls and integrated pest management.
