About the role
The Head of Media Relations for the Toronto Maple Leafs will lead all communications and media activities for one of the most iconic NHL franchises. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Communications, the role works closely with the General Manager, Hockey Operations, coaching staff and senior leadership to shape the public narrative and protect the brand.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive media relations strategies that enhance the team’s reputation.
- Manage a team of three media‑relations professionals, providing guidance and mentorship.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and advisor to senior executives, handling press inquiries, interviews and media events.
- Coordinate communications for games, practices, player transactions, special events, league initiatives and crisis situations.
- Build and maintain relationships with local, national and international media outlets.
- Oversee the creation of press releases, media kits, talking points and other communication assets.
Required profile
- Proven senior‑level experience in media relations or communications within professional sports or a comparable high‑visibility environment.
- Demonstrated ability to advise senior leadership and manage crisis communications.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing a small team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
