General Physiatrist – Rehabilitation Medicine

About the role

The Island Health Division of Rehabilitation Medicine is seeking a General Physiatrist to join a team of six physicians. The role provides consultative and directive care for patients with neurological conditions, post‑traumatic injuries, and amputations across both inpatient and outpatient settings at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive physiatry consultations for in‑patients on the 25‑bed intensive rehabilitation unit and for patients in slow‑stream and transitional units.
• Provide outpatient rehabilitation services for neurological disease, trauma, and amputation cases.
• Collaborate with a full spectrum of on‑site specialists, including medical, surgical, psychiatric, and diagnostic teams.
• Utilize diagnostic imaging (X‑ray, CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, sonography) to inform treatment plans.
• Perform epidural and facet injection procedures as needed.
• Maintain a consultative service without night call responsibilities.

Required profile

• Board‑certified or eligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
• Experience or strong interest in neurological, post‑traumatic, and amputation rehabilitation.
• Ability to work in a hospital‑based environment and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to start as soon as possible.

Required skills

• Proficiency in performing epidural and facet injection procedures.
• Familiarity with interpreting imaging studies (X‑ray, CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, sonography).
