General Manager – Manufacturing Operations

About the role
The General Manager leads all aspects of a unionized stainless‑steel manufacturing division, overseeing sales, production, human resources, quality, and financial performance. This senior operational leader drives productivity, quality, and continuous‑improvement initiatives while supporting the company’s growth strategy.
Key responsibilities
- Develop deep knowledge of business, product lines, and plant operations.
- Partner with VP Sales to set growth targets, business objectives, and financial plans.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, employees, and owners.
- Improve efficiency across administrative functions and the shop floor.
- Recruit, onboard, coach, and evaluate all team members.
- Manage union relations, scheduling, attendance, conflicts, and disciplinary actions.
- Communicate effectively between shop‑floor teams and senior leadership.
- Control the operating budget, report variances, and optimize production costs.
- Analyze financial indicators and implement action plans.
- Support quoting, capacity planning, and capital‑investment ROI analysis.
Required profile
- Bilingual French/English.
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or related field (preferred).
- 8–10 years of manufacturing experience, including at least 5 years in people‑management roles.
- Proven ability to lead a unionized workforce.
- Experience in stainless‑steel fabrication, welding, forming, or machining (strong asset).
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ASME, CWB standards and precision‑manufacturing practices.
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma or Kaizen methodologies (certification a plus).
Required skills
- Interpretation of technical drawings and engineering specifications.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems.
- Advanced use of Microsoft Office suite.
- Application of Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen tools.
- Understanding of ISO 9001, ASME, and CWB standards.
- Hands‑on knowledge of stainless‑steel fabrication, welding, forming, and machining processes.
