About the role
Seabird Island is seeking a Food and Nutritional Wellness Worker to support the health and wellbeing of program participants through culturally informed meal preparation and nutrition oversight. The role works under the Senior Clinical Substance Use Program Lead and collaborates with clinical, cultural, and wellness teams.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare balanced meals and snacks that meet dietary needs, allergies, and cultural preferences.
- Plan and coordinate breakfast menus, as well as lunch, dinner, and snack offerings.
- Estimate ingredient quantities, cook, test for quality and palatability, and incorporate traditional First Nations foods where possible.
- Monitor client food and fluid intake and report concerns to nursing staff or supervisor.
- Collaborate with dietitians, Traditional Wellness Specialists, and other team members to develop culturally informed menus aligned with Canada’s Food Guide.
- Contribute to nutrition education and food‑literacy initiatives for participants.
Required profile
- Experience in meal planning, food preparation, and kitchen operations.
- Understanding of dietary restrictions, allergies, and client‑specific nutrition needs.
- Commitment to culturally safe practices and inclusion of First Nations foods.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clinical and cultural staff.
Required skills
- Food Safe certification or equivalent food‑handling knowledge.
- Familiarity with Canada’s Food Guide and nutrition standards.
- Experience incorporating traditional First Nations foods into menus.
- Knowledge of licensing requirements for food service environments.
