Financial Controller – Retail (US Operations)

About the role

The Financial Controller will lead the set‑up and enhancement of all financial processes, systems and initiatives for our US retail operations. Based in Markham, this office‑based role ensures accurate and timely reporting, strong internal controls, and strategic financial guidance to support rapid growth.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement financial structures, policies and controls for US operations.
• Manage end‑to‑end accounting activities including AP, AR, fixed assets, inventory, general ledger, LC, DP, account creation and petty cash.
• Oversee month‑end close, journal entries, ledger reconciliations and financial analysis.
• Collaborate with treasury on fund flow set‑up and movement.
• Serve as liaison with internal and external auditors during annual audits.
• Set up, review and file US sales and use tax; prepare compliance reports for regulators and auditors.
• Assist tax team with annual tax package submissions.
• Lead and develop the US accounting team, driving individual and collective growth.
• Participate in ad‑hoc projects, analyses and special assignments.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Commerce with CPA designation.
• Minimum 5 years of senior management experience in an accounting department, supervising a team.
• Strong business acumen in the retail sector and ability to devise innovative financial solutions.
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Analytical, problem‑solving and policy‑design expertise.
• Detail‑oriented, hands‑on approach with flexibility to work overtime when needed.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel (macros, pivot tables, large‑data analysis).

What we offer

• Compensation package: CAD 130,000 – 155,000 per year plus an 8‑10% bonus.
