Financial Controller (Remote, Canada)

About the role

Anime Universe is looking for a Financial Controller to design, build and scale the company’s financial infrastructure. This remote, equity‑partner position focuses on creating clarity in chaos and turning numbers into strategic decisions for a next‑generation entertainment business.

Key responsibilities

• Design and manage monthly, quarterly and annual close processes, delivering accurate P&L, balance sheet and cash‑flow statements.
• Oversee accounting operations including AP/AR, revenue recognition, expense tracking and payroll coordination.
• Select, implement and integrate accounting systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite or Xero, and automate financial workflows.
• Develop and enforce internal controls, prepare for SOC 2 audit readiness and ensure tax compliance across jurisdictions.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and scenario modelling, monitor runway and burn rate, and provide variance analysis.
• Partner with the CEO, CFO, Operations and Product/Engineering teams to support strategic capital planning.

Required profile

• Proven experience in financial reporting, accounting integrity and internal controls.
• Ability to build scalable financial processes in a fast‑growing environment.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on financial discipline and investor readiness.
