About the role
Our client is seeking a Financial Controller to lead core accounting operations and provide strong financial oversight in a fast‑paced environment. This fully on‑site position in Kitchener, Ontario, focuses on accurate reporting, robust internal controls, and insightful analysis to support business decisions.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the full month‑end close cycle, including journal entry review, account reconciliations and timely completion of close activities.
- Direct general ledger activities, cash oversight and preparation of complete monthly financial statements with high accuracy.
- Design, implement and maintain accounting policies, control frameworks and financial procedures to ensure compliance and operational effectiveness.
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, purchasing support and broader financial planning initiatives.
- Lead, mentor and develop the finance team, fostering accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Prepare financial reporting, performance analysis and risk insights for senior leadership.
- Manage banking relationships, tax coordination, external reporting requirements and audit activities.
- Monitor cash flow trends, develop cash projections and recommend liquidity optimisation strategies.
- Track key business metrics, identify process improvement opportunities and strengthen profitability.
- Evaluate accounting systems and tools to improve efficiency and reliability.
Required profile
- 5+ years of progressive operational finance experience, including leadership responsibilities in a controllership or similar function.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, general ledger management, account reconciliations and month‑end close practices.
- Experience developing budgets, analysing financial results and preparing ad‑hoc reports for management.
- Solid understanding of internal controls, regulatory reporting, tax coordination and audit support.
- Excellent communication, problem‑solving and team‑leadership abilities.
