Financial Controller – Contract (Toronto)

About the role

A fast‑growing payments company in Toronto is looking for a Contract Financial Controller to lead all financial operations, reporting, and controls. The role supports a high‑volume transaction environment and works closely with senior leadership to drive performance and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee accounting operations including month‑ and year‑end close, accounts payable/receivable, payroll and preparation of financial statements under IFRS.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis and provide financial insights to senior leadership.
• Manage cash‑flow, settlement account reconciliations and relationships with banks and payment processors.
• Ensure compliance with payments regulations such as FINTRAC and PCI and support internal and external audits.
• Strengthen internal controls, policies and financial processes.
• Lead, mentor and develop the finance team.

Required profile

• CPA designation.
• 7–10 years of progressive finance/accounting experience, including prior controllership responsibilities.
• Hands‑on experience in high‑volume transaction environments, preferably in payments, FinTech or financial services.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and analytical abilities.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel.
• Financial systems experience – NetSuite or Sage Intacct.
