Financial Controller – Contract (6 months)

About the role

Blue Ocean Group is seeking an experienced Financial Controller on a six‑month contract, with the possibility of extending for an additional year. Based in Surrey, BC, you will partner directly with the CEO to strengthen financial operations and support the company’s rapid growth in the specialty beverage sector.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review and present monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
• Manage the general ledger and ensure timely month‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Develop, monitor and analyse budgets, forecasts and financial performance.
• Conduct variance analysis and recommend actions to improve profitability and efficiency.
• Provide financial insights to support business planning and strategic decision‑making.
• Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards, tax regulations and internal controls.
• Coordinate external audits and manage relationships with auditors and advisors.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital and overall financial planning activities.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on operational and growth initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to enhance financial systems, reporting processes and controls.

Required profile

• Strong accounting foundation with hands‑on experience preparing and reviewing financial statements.
• CPA designation (or equivalent) preferred.
• Previous experience as a Controller, Senior Accountant or similar finance‑leadership role.
• Advanced skills in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and analysis.
• Deep knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, tax regulations and internal controls.
• Experience in manufacturing, food & beverage, wellness or CPG industries is an asset.
