Financial Controller

About the role

As the business scales, we need a strategic, hands‑on Financial Controller to build scalable financial processes, support performance measurement and ensure alignment across the organization. The Controller sits at the senior leadership table, translating results into actionable insights and partnering closely with the CFO.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a trusted advisor to ownership and executive leadership, providing forward‑looking financial insights and scenario modeling.
• Serve as the primary financial partner between Finance and Operations, leading regular performance reviews and improving transparency across Sales, Production, and Project Management.
• Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close processes for three operating entities, including working papers, reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
• Lead financial audits, manage banking relationships and ensure tax compliance in both Canada and the United States.
• Design and implement internal controls for purchasing, billing, AR, AP and payroll, and identify margin leakage.
• Strengthen project‑based accounting, job‑costing accuracy and work‑in‑progress reporting.
• Develop KPIs and dashboards to measure margins, cash flow and labor efficiency.
• Lead and develop an accounting team of approximately four, driving AI adoption and workflow automation.

Required profile

• CPA designation.
• 7‑10 years of progressive finance leadership experience.
• Advanced knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting and margin analysis.
• Proven success building internal controls and scalable financial systems.
• Multi‑entity/multi‑location experience; cross‑border Canada/U.S. accounting preferred.
• Strong communication skills and ability to make complex financial information accessible.
• AI‑forward mindset comfortable with tools such as Claude, Gemini and Copilot.
