Finance Controller – Banking

About the role

The Finance Controller will join SBI Canada Bank’s finance team in downtown Toronto, reporting directly to the CFO. This senior position is responsible for the accuracy of financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and strategic financial planning across the bank’s Canadian operations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and ensure accuracy of trial balance, balance sheet, income statement, and deposit/loan reports.
• Develop strategic and annual business plans, financial projections, and scenario analyses.
• Oversee timely filing of direct and indirect taxes, including CRA audits and FATCA/CRS reporting.
• Coordinate annual external audits and manage communications with auditors and internal stakeholders.
• Submit regulatory reports to OSFI, Statistics Canada, Bank of Canada, and CDIC, ensuring compliance with all applicable acts.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the parent bank and meet OSFI Liquidity and Capital Adequacy requirements.
• Maintain IFRS reporting obligations and establish consistent accounting policies across the organization.
• Lead the finance department staff, providing guidance and support for daily tasks.
• Assist the CFO with special projects and ad‑hoc reporting as required.

Required profile

• Graduate degree in Finance with CPA or equivalent designation.
• Minimum five years of finance experience within a Canadian bank.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian banking regulations and reporting standards.

Required skills

• Advanced MS Excel proficiency.
