Field Safety Advisor

About the role

The Field Safety Advisor will support the Waasigan Transmission Line project, providing day‑to‑day safety coordination for supervisors, foremen and field workers. Reporting to the Regional Safety Supervisor, this role ensures Valard’s safety culture is established and maintained on site.

Key responsibilities

• Be a visible safety presence in the field, ensuring a safe work environment for employees, contractors and visitors.
• Coach and assist field staff to meet safety expectations and enforce the Site Safety Management Plan.
• Participate in incident investigations, determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Attend project safety meetings, review trends and communicate safety obligations to managers and supervisors.
• Review daily tailboards, address hazards, and provide feedback for compliance.
• Conduct observations, inspections and emergency drills; share findings in safety meetings.
• Facilitate weekly safety meetings, capture minutes and prepare safety reports.
• Support development and review of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) with crews.
• Apply Valard’s Health, Safety and Environmental Manual across all field activities.
• Stay current with applicable legislation and standards, informing project leadership of changes.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary education in a related field.
• At least 5 years of construction site safety experience.
• National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) certification.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to provide a driver’s abstract.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

What we offer

• Base salary range of $35‑$55 per hour, depending on experience.
• Field‑based schedule: 20 days on / 10 days off, 11‑hour days.
• Camp accommodations provided.
