Field Operation Assistant (Part‑time)

About the role

The Field Operation Assistant supports daily activities at the Macdonald Campus Farm/Horticulture Centre. This part‑time position involves hands‑on work in horticulture, from land preparation to harvesting, and provides valuable experience in a university‑run agricultural setting.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare soil, pick rocks, seed, transplant and prune plants.
• Operate basic farm equipment, including a tractor, and perform hoeing and weeding.
• Harvest fruits and vegetables and assist with sales at the Mac Market counter.
• Collect data from research plots and maintain accurate records.
• Perform any additional tasks assigned by the Chief Horticulture Technician.

Required profile

• High school diploma (or equivalent).
• No prior experience required; a willingness to learn horticultural practices.
• Authorization to work in Canada and ability to work in Quebec.
• Basic proficiency in English (verbal and written).

Required skills

• Ability to follow safety procedures and handle farm tools.
• Physical stamina for outdoor work.
• Driver’s licence (asset).
