Field Operations Assistant

About the role

The Field Operations Assistant supports daily activities on the Macdonald Campus Farm and Horticulture Centre. This part‑time position involves hands‑on work in planting, maintenance, harvesting and data collection, helping the Chief Horticulture Technician keep research plots and market operations running smoothly.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare land and remove rocks for planting beds.
• Seed, transplant, prune and hoe a variety of crops.
• Operate tractors for basic field tasks.
• Harvest fruits and vegetables for research and market sales.
• Assist customers at the Mac Market counter.
• Collect and record data from research plots.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the Chief Horticulture Technician.

Required profile

• High School Diploma (minimum).
• Minimal or no prior related experience; willingness to learn.
• Authorization to work in Canada and ability to work in Quebec.
• English communication level assessed at #2 (out of 0‑4).
• Driver’s licence and previous horticulture experience are assets.

What we offer

• Hourly wage of $18.00 CAD.
• Part‑time schedule: approximately 15 hours per week.
• Employment under the AMUSE collective agreement.
