Field Operation Assistant – Part-time Farm Support

About the role

The Macdonald Campus Farm/Horticulture Centre at McGill University is seeking a Field Operation Assistant to support daily farm activities on a part‑time basis. This role offers hands‑on experience in horticulture, market sales, and research data collection while working outdoors in a collaborative academic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare land, pick rocks, seed, transplant, prune, and hoe garden beds.
• Operate a tractor for basic field tasks as needed.
• Harvest fruits and vegetables and assist customers at the Mac Market counter.
• Collect and record data from research plots.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the Chief Horticulture Technician.

Required profile

• High school diploma (or equivalent).
• Minimal or no prior experience; willingness to learn farm operations.
• Ability to work in English at a functional level (assessment level #2).
• Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work in Quebec.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of horticultural practices (preferred but not mandatory).
• Valid driver’s licence (asset).
