Family Law Lawyer

About the role

Our boutique law firm in Westmount, serving the greater Montreal area, is seeking an experienced family law lawyer. You will join a collaborative team dedicated to delivering high‑quality, personalized legal services to clients facing divorce, child custody, adoption, and related matters.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct initial client consultations, provide legal advice, and evaluate case strategies.
• Represent clients in the Superior Court of Quebec and the Court of Quebec (DYP) for safeguard measures, provisional hearings, and trials.
• Draft legal documents such as divorce applications, safeguard order motions, and accessory measure applications.
• Negotiate with opposing counsel to achieve amicable settlements and prepare settlement offers.
• Participate in alternative dispute resolution, including settlement conferences.
• Perform legal research using books and databases to support case arguments.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, offering empathetic and objective guidance throughout the legal process.

Required profile

• Member in good standing with the Quebec Bar.
• Minimum of 4 years of family law experience.
• Proven experience in negotiations and family litigation.
• Strong knowledge of divorce, child custody, support, and related family law matters.
• Familiarity with Superior Court directives in family cases.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and French.
