Facilities Worker – Recreation Services

About the role

The City of Iqaluit is seeking a full‑time Facilities Worker to support the operation and maintenance of its recreational facilities, including the arena, curling rinks, ball fields, parks, and playgrounds. This position reports to the Facilities Coordinator and is unionized.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and clean arena, curling sheets, sports fields, parks and playground equipment.
• Assist in setting up and running recreational programs and events.
• Perform custodial duties such as sweeping, mopping, waste removal, and minor repairs.
• Ensure safety standards are met, including compliance with CPR and First Aid requirements.
• Complete required criminal record checks and adhere to settlement allowance policies.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 10 education or equivalent.
• Up to one year of experience performing custodial or facilities maintenance duties.
• Ability to obtain or hold current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Willingness to work onsite in Iqaluit and pass a criminal record check.
• Preference given to Nunavut Land Claim beneficiaries and Indigenous language proficiency.

What we offer

• Hourly wage of $34.25 CAD (35 hours per week).
• Annual settlement allowance of $20,907.43.
