Executive Director

About the role

The Executive Director provides overall leadership and direction for the day‑to‑day administration and operations of Songhees Nation. Reporting to the Chief and Council, the role translates strategic priorities into actionable plans while ensuring effective governance, financial stewardship, and strong community relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage bi‑weekly Council meeting agendas, prepare materials, record minutes and track resolutions.
• Provide strategic advice to Chief and Council and oversee implementation of Council policies across all operational areas.
• Lead the development of the annual budget in collaboration with senior finance staff, monitor financial performance and explain variances to the Finance and Audit Committee.
• Oversee policy and law development, manage organizational risk and ensure legislative compliance.
• Foster relationships with community members, staff, external partners, governments and Indigenous organizations.

Required profile

• Senior‑level leadership experience in a complex governance environment.
• Strong financial literacy and experience in budgeting and financial reporting.
• Proven ability to work effectively with Chief and Council, government agencies and Indigenous partners.
• Excellent communication, strategic thinking and decision‑making skills.
