Excavator Operator – Remote Mining Site (Kearl)

About the role

NACG is looking for experienced excavator operators to join the Kearl mining site team in the Fort McMurray region. You will work on a 14‑day on/14‑day off schedule, operating a range of excavators to support production while adhering to strict safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate various sizes and models of excavators (870 mm bucket or larger) to complete assigned work.
• Read stakes, set grades, and excavate ditches, slopes, and grades as required.
• Conduct equipment walk‑arounds, safety checks, and field‑level risk assessments before each shift.
• Review and follow safe work plans and hazard assessments.
• Report any equipment issues, repairs, incidents, or near‑misses promptly.

Required profile

• 2‑3 years of experience operating excavators, preferably in a mining environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent; post‑secondary education is a plus.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and recent driver’s abstract.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Safety‑first attitude and strong listening skills.

Required skills

• Excavator operation (870 mm bucket or larger).
• Stake reading and grade placement.
• Use of personal protective equipment and safety inspections.
• CSO and Wildlife Awareness (including Bear Awareness) certification for Kearl.
