About the role
Discovery Community College is seeking a dedicated ESL Instructor to teach English to Health Care Assistant (HCA) students at our Surrey, BC campus. The role focuses on preparing learners for laboratory and clinical training, enabling them to become qualified HCAs in British Columbia.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver ESL instruction aligned with Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) level 5 and above.
- Guide students through language practice relevant to health‑care settings.
- Provide two hours of weekly office hours for student support.
- Assess student progress and maintain accurate records.
Required profile
- TESL Canada Professional Standard Two certification.
- Experience teaching CLB levels 5+.
- University degree (BA) plus at least 100 hours of TESL methodology and theory.
- Strong knowledge of Health Care Assistant content.
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and student success.
Required skills
- TESL certification and methodology expertise.
- Familiarity with Canadian Language Benchmarks.
- Understanding of HCA curriculum and terminology.
What we offer
- Evening and weekend schedule: Tue‑Thu 5:30 pm‑9:30 pm, Sat 8:30 am‑5:00 pm.
