Emergency Medicine Physician

About the role

Island Health’s Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking board‑certified emergency physicians to join a progressive, collegial team of over 20 physicians in Nanaimo, BC. You will work in the busiest emergency department on Vancouver Island, providing high‑quality clinical care, trauma leadership, and contributing to education and research initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive emergency and trauma care to a diverse patient population (≈70,000 visits annually).
• Lead the emergency and trauma teams, coordinating with major specialty services.
• Participate in departmental administration, teaching, and research activities.
• Maintain high standards of patient safety and quality improvement.

Required profile

• Board‑certified in Emergency Medicine and eligible for licensure in British Columbia.
• Previous experience in a high‑volume emergency department is preferred.
• Strong interest in clinical practice, education, research, or departmental leadership.
• Commitment to living and working in the Nanaimo community.
