Emergency Management & Continuity Planning Advisor

About the role

The Emergency Management & Continuity Planning Advisor leads the development, promotion and implementation of university‑wide emergency management, continuity planning and resilience programs. Reporting to the Director of Emergency Management, the role supports UBC in identifying and mitigating risks that could impact campus operations and enhances organizational resilience.

Key responsibilities

  • Assess campus‑wide needs for emergency, continuity and resilience programming and design response approaches aligned with UBC policies, regulatory standards and industry best practices.
  • Develop, review and update emergency response plans, continuity procedures and related policies.
  • Design and deliver a comprehensive training and exercise program for staff and departments.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs, producing regular status reports for senior leadership.
  • Serve as a resource on federal, provincial and municipal regulations, ensuring university compliance with best practices.
  • Collaborate with senior administrators, faculties, departments and ancillary services on emergency initiatives.

Required profile

  • Demonstrated experience in emergency management, continuity planning or related resilience functions.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable regulations and standards in a higher‑education environment.
  • Ability to work under the direction of the Director of Emergency Management and coordinate with senior campus partners.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
