Electrical Estimator – Utilities Construction

About the role

Black & McDonald’s BC Utilities team is expanding and seeks an analytical, collaborative Electrical Estimator to join the Vancouver office. Reporting to the Lead Electrical Estimator, you will support utility‑focused electrical projects by preparing cost estimates, take‑offs, and tender documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing estimates for tender submissions on electrical utility, design‑build, and infrastructure projects.
• Perform quantity take‑offs and prepare cost breakdowns for materials, labour, and equipment.
• Support tendering procedures, evaluate bids, recommend awards, and participate in negotiations.
• Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, designers, and architects.
• Maintain a directory of suppliers and subcontractors, obtain and compare quotes.
• Participate in site visits, review meetings, and project hand‑offs with project managers.
• Update cost databases and estimating software, and prepare bid packages.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of estimating experience in utilities or commercial construction.
• Degree or diploma in Construction Engineering Technology/Construction Management (or equivalent trades experience).
• Strong communication, teamwork, problem‑solving, and customer‑focus competencies.

Required skills

• Proficiency with estimating software (asset).
• Advanced use of MS Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Experience performing quantity take‑offs.
• Understanding of electrical systems and construction processes.
• Knowledge of construction best practices.
• Valid non‑graduated Class 5 BC driver’s licence.
