Drilling and Technology Intern

About the role

The Water for Life Initiative (WFLI) of Global Aid Network (GAiN) Canada provides deep-capped water wells, sanitation and hygiene programs, church engagement and a monitoring and evaluation program to communities in sub-Saharan Africa. The Drilling and Technology Intern supports field partners in drilling operations and procurement, helping develop expertise in the efficient use of drilling equipment and keeping drilling records up to date. The position reports to the Project Manager – Drilling Specialist and is funded through Ministry Partner Development.

Key responsibilities

• Complete regular data and analysis of WFLI drilling operations, including monitoring equipment downtime, quality-checking drilling data and well statistics, and identifying improvement opportunities.
• Forecast and purchase supplies and equipment for field teams, including spare parts and vehicles, and manage the equipment database.
• Identify alternate suppliers for drilling consumables and monitor inventory of pumps, pipes and other supplies.
• Research and implement new equipment, systems and tools, organize training for drill teams, and update technical manuals and safety policies.
• Conduct field visits as needed and maintain up-to-date drilling records.

Required profile

• Background or education in equipment maintenance, engineering and/or data analysis.
• Experience with drilling or heavy equipment is an asset; relief and development ministry experience is preferable.
• Able to work with minimum supervision, solve problems critically, and work from a Google Suite platform.
• Must hold or be able to obtain a valid passport and pass a criminal record check and vulnerable sector search.
• Must be able to travel internationally and show a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and adherence to the ministry's Code of Conduct and Statement of Faith.
