Distinguished Engineer - AI Computing System

About the role

Huawei Canada’s Advanced Computing and Storage Lab is seeking a Distinguished Engineer to lead the design and optimisation of AI computing systems for large‑model training and inference. The role focuses on building next‑generation software frameworks, acceleration libraries and cluster‑wide optimisation strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Define AI framework road‑maps for large‑model pre‑training, post‑training and integrated training‑inference scenarios.
• Lead development of low‑precision training, parallel‑strategy tuning and resource‑optimisation technologies.
• Architect and implement AI training frameworks, operator libraries and acceleration features for training servers and super‑nodes.
• Collaborate with academic experts, contribute to standards and patents, and drive commercial adoption of optimisation solutions.
• Build and mentor a team of technical experts in AI training‑cluster software and optimisation.

Required profile

• Advanced degree or equivalent experience in AI, computer science, mathematics, electronics or related fields.
• 5+ years of R&D experience in large‑model training and optimisation.
• Strong research mindset, excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with large‑model architectures such as Deepseek and Llama.
• Deep technical knowledge of LLM, MoE and multimodal learning optimisation.
• Experience with AI accelerator hardware (GPU, NPU) and software‑hardware co‑design.
• Expertise in cluster and cloud computing, especially cluster scheduling and software architecture design.

What we offer

• Competitive base salary ranging from $172,000 to $230,000 CAD per year.
