About the role

Food Banks Canada is seeking a Director, Philanthropy to lead a growing major‑gifts function. This senior, relationship‑driven position will shape strategy, build a high‑value donor portfolio, and generate $2‑$3 million in annual contributions while expanding as the program matures.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of high‑capacity donors and prospects, securing an initial $2‑$3 M and growing contributions over time.
• Develop tailored proposals, impact reports, and recognition plans that deepen donor trust and loyalty.
• Design and implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship processes that align with organizational priorities.
• Collaborate with senior leaders to integrate donor passion into Food Banks Canada’s mission and strategic initiatives.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to a high‑performing philanthropy team, fostering a seamless giving pipeline.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a major‑gifts strategist with a track record of securing multi‑million‑dollar donations.
• Exceptional communication and relationship‑building skills, comfortable navigating ambiguity and change.
• Strong commitment to personalized donor stewardship and measurable impact.
• Ability to inspire and lead a team in a fast‑growing nonprofit environment.

Required skills

• Fluency in English; French is an asset.
