Director of Resident Care

About the role

The Director of Resident Care will lead nursing, therapy and restorative services for a brand‑new long‑term care home in Scarborough. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will shape a resident‑centred culture from day one and ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, develop and supervise high‑quality nursing, therapy and restorative care activities for the opening and ongoing operations of the facility.
• Lead risk‑management and quality‑improvement programs, including infection control, occupational health and safety, and incident/falls prevention.
• Oversee admissions, transfers and discharges, reviewing all applications for resident placement.
• Recruit, hire, coach and evaluate a highly engaged nursing team, and manage orientation and in‑service training.
• Act as Chair for professional advisory committees and liaise with the Ministry of Health, physicians, pharmacists and external agencies.

Required profile

• Current RN registration with a Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 5 years nursing experience, including at least 1 year in geriatrics/rehabilitation/LTC and 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
• Current CPR certification and a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Screen.
• Strong financial acumen with experience preparing and managing departmental budgets.
