Director of Communications

About the role

The partner organization is seeking a Director of Communications based in Canada to lead national communications strategy. This senior leadership position blends strategic advisory work with hands‑on execution, shaping narratives that influence government, public, and private audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement integrated communications and public‑affairs strategies aligned with national influence goals.
• Act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, including the Managing Director, on executive messaging and public engagement.
• Develop messaging frameworks and storytelling approaches for diverse stakeholders such as government, partners, and communities.
• Lead thought‑leadership initiatives, including speeches, public remarks, and executive communications.
• Manage media relations across Canada, building strong relationships to enhance visibility and reputation.
• Oversee issues management and reputational‑risk communications in partnership with internal teams.
• Track, measure, and report on communications effectiveness, using insights to refine strategy.
• Guide and mentor communications professionals, fostering alignment and talent development.
• Coordinate with external agencies and internal specialists to ensure consistent, high‑quality campaign delivery.

Required profile

• 5+ years of senior‑level experience in communications, public affairs, or strategic communications within Canada.
• Proven ability to develop and execute communications strategies for large or global organizations.
• Strong strategic thinking and capability to operate in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for translating mission‑driven objectives into compelling narratives.
