Director, Economic Development

About the role

The Director, Economic Development leads Yuuəˀɨˀatˀə Government’s economic development mandate, shaping vision, strategy and investment‑ready opportunities to drive long‑term self‑sufficiency for the First Nation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the Nation’s economic vision, strategy, goals and performance metrics.
• Identify, evaluate and prioritize economic opportunities, leading feasibility studies, due diligence and business‑case development.
• Coordinate land, infrastructure and regulatory readiness to enable investment.
• Build partnerships with industry, investors, financial institutions and neighbouring governments, negotiating agreements as needed.
• Oversee a lean Economic Development department, manage budgets, recruitment and financial reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Economics or related field (Master’s preferred).
• 8‑10 years of experience in economic or business development, including 2‑3 years in a management role.
• Proven experience developing business cases, feasibility studies and securing funding.
• Experience working with First Nations governments or Indigenous economic development is preferred.

• Ability to lead and mentor a small professional team.
