Director, Business Development, Merchant Partnerships & Strategic Growth

About the role

The Director of Business Development, Merchant Partnerships & Strategic Growth will lead Mastercard’s commercial strategy to accelerate market development through high‑value merchant and fintech partnerships. Reporting to the Growth Verticals leadership, the role focuses on creating scalable revenue streams across multiple verticals such as retail, telecom, insurance, restaurants and emerging digital platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute end‑to‑end revenue strategies for strategic accounts and emerging verticals, identifying new payment flows and acceptance opportunities.
• Lead cross‑functional teams across Sales, Product, Marketing, Finance, Legal and Services to deliver integrated go‑to‑market plans and drive operational excellence.
• Negotiate complex, multi‑year partnership agreements with C‑suite stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor and expanding wallet share.
• Provide data‑driven insights, commercial modeling and board‑ready business cases to influence executive decision‑making and shape product roadmaps.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in business development, commercial strategy, enterprise sales or strategic partnerships within payments, fintech or related technology sectors.
• Proven track record of scaling strategic partnerships that generate measurable revenue growth and market expansion.
• Strong financial acumen with expertise in business case development, commercial modeling, forecasting and profitability analysis.
• Exceptional executive communication skills and the ability to influence without formal authority across large, matrixed organizations.
