Designer – Piping Systems (Calgary)

About the role

Startec Compression & Process is seeking a Designer to lead the creation and layout of complex piping systems for compression and processing equipment at its Calgary facility. The role combines advanced technical knowledge with detailed drafting to ensure safe, efficient, and cost‑effective plant designs.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) to define equipment connections and process requirements.
• Develop equipment layouts that optimise safety, maintenance access, operational efficiency and future expansion.
• Produce detailed general arrangement drawings and isometric piping drawings for fabrication and construction.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers and multidisciplinary teams to resolve design clashes and ensure alignment with project objectives.
• Conduct internal design reviews, verify compliance with industry standards and document all design decisions.

Required profile

• Strong technical background in piping system design for industrial equipment.
• Proven ability to lead design activities and work closely with cross‑functional teams.
• Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality, safety and schedule adherence.
