Deputy Auditor General – Senior Audit Leadership Role

About the role

The City of Ottawa is seeking a Deputy Auditor General to provide senior audit leadership across the municipality. Reporting to the Auditor General, you will oversee compliance, financial and performance audits, manage audit teams and consultants, and ensure the delivery of high‑quality audit results that support Council decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage individual audits and investigations from the annual work plan and ad‑hoc complaints.
• Supervise OAG staff and external consultants, coordinating resources to meet audit objectives.
• Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the audit team, including organizational structure, job design, and financial and human‑resource management.
• Drive continuous improvement of audit processes and methodologies.
• Provide clear, actionable findings and recommendations to improve City operations.

Required profile

• University degree with CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) or CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) designation.
• Minimum ten (10) years of senior‑level auditing experience, preferably in municipal, provincial or federal government environments.
• Demonstrated integrity, strong leadership, and effective communication skills.
• Highly developed analytical and business‑planning abilities.
• Experience working in complex, multi‑stakeholder and multi‑union settings.
• Fluency in both of Canada’s official languages is an asset.
