Crown Attorney (Criminal Law)

About the role

The Crown Attorney provides prosecutorial services for matters arising under the Criminal Code of Canada and provincial statutes. This role involves representing the Crown in both provincial and superior courts while contributing to public legal education.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct prosecutions in provincial and superior courts for offences under federal and provincial law.
• Prepare and deliver legal opinions on criminal matters.
• Review police reports and assess evidence for suitability of charges.
• Instruct police officers regarding charge decisions and investigative procedures.
• Participate in community outreach and legal education initiatives on criminal law and procedures on behalf of the Manitoba Prosecution Service.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada and relevant provincial statutes.
• Experience reviewing police documentation and providing legal advice.
• Ability to communicate effectively with law enforcement and the public.
• Commitment to upholding justice and contributing to community education.
