Course Lecturer – Methods in Music Education (Fall 2026)

About the role

The Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) at McGill University seeks a Course Lecturer for the Fall 2026 offering of EDEA 442 – Methods in Music Education 1. The lecturer will lead a three‑credit, Friday‑only class focused on preparing pre‑service teachers for their third field experience, covering music curriculum, instructional approaches, classroom management, lesson planning and program development for elementary and secondary schools.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver weekly lectures and workshops on music education theory and practice.
• Design and assess lesson plans, assignments and program development projects.
• Guide students in applying the Quebec Education Program and professional competencies.
• Coordinate with the DISE teaching team and attend planning meetings at least two weeks before the term.
• Maintain course materials in the MyCourses platform and support blended‑learning activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or equivalent professional experience) in Music Education or a related field.
• Teaching qualification and proven experience teaching music in elementary and/or secondary schools.
• Expert knowledge of music education and familiarity with the Quebec Education Program.
• Understanding of the Ministère de l’Éducation professional competencies.
• Commitment to equity, diversity and collaborative teamwork.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MyCourses or similar Learning Management Systems.
• Experience using Zoom and other online teaching platforms.
• Ability to deliver blended classroom instruction using technology tools.
