Course Lecturer – Mohawk Heritage Language 1 (EDEC 275 760)

About the role

The University is seeking a Course Lecturer to deliver the Mohawk Heritage Language 1 course (EDEC 275 760) for the Fall 2026 term. The instructor will introduce pre‑service teachers to the phonological, morphological, syntactic, stress and intonation patterns of Mohawk, and illustrate how the language reflects Mohawk culture.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver three weekly evening sessions (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 6:00 p.m. – 9:15 p.m.) in Kahnawà:ke from November 23 to December 18, 2026.
• Adapt course content and references to reflect the latest advances in the field and the cultural context of the community.
• Participate in course coordination and planning activities online approximately two weeks before the start date.
• Ensure compliance with the Quebec Education program, the 13 professional competencies of the Ministère de l’Éducation, and equity, diversity and inclusion standards.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or equivalent research/professional experience) related to Indigenous language education.
• Expert knowledge of Mohawk language structure and its cultural dimensions.
• Familiarity with the Quebec Education program, partnering school‑board curriculum, and the 13 professional competencies.
• Demonstrated experience teaching Indigenous or elementary education courses, preferably in collaboration with First Nations or Inuit communities.
• Experience developing curriculum grounded in Indigenous knowledge and pedagogies.
