Course Lecturer – Japanese Studies (EAST 305) – Fall 2026

About the role

The Department of East Asian Studies at McGill University seeks a Course Lecturer to teach EAST 305 – Current Topics: Japanese Studies 1 during the Fall 2026 term. This 3‑credit course explores modern Japanese culture and society with a critical, interdisciplinary approach.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver weekly lectures and discussion sessions.
• Prepare a detailed course plan, syllabus, and reading materials.
• Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and participation.
• Submit attendance records and final grades to the university.
• Supervise teaching assistants or other support staff as needed.
• Provide academic advising and respond to student inquiries.

Required profile

• All‑But‑Dissertation (ABD) or equivalent in Asian Studies or a related field.
• Significant experience teaching at the university level.
• Demonstrated ability to engage students in critical analysis of Japanese culture.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of modern Japanese history, culture, and society.
• Effective pedagogical methods and curriculum design.
• Ability to evaluate academic work and provide constructive feedback.
