About the role
The Department of East Asian Studies at McGill University seeks a Course Lecturer to teach EAST 305 – Current Topics: Japanese Studies 1 during the Fall 2026 term. This 3‑credit course explores modern Japanese culture and society with a critical, interdisciplinary approach.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and deliver weekly lectures and discussion sessions.
- Prepare a detailed course plan, syllabus, and reading materials.
- Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and participation.
- Submit attendance records and final grades to the university.
- Supervise teaching assistants or other support staff as needed.
- Provide academic advising and respond to student inquiries.
Required profile
- All‑But‑Dissertation (ABD) or equivalent in Asian Studies or a related field.
- Significant experience teaching at the university level.
- Demonstrated ability to engage students in critical analysis of Japanese culture.
Required skills
- Strong knowledge of modern Japanese history, culture, and society.
- Effective pedagogical methods and curriculum design.
- Ability to evaluate academic work and provide constructive feedback.
