Course Lecturer – Foundations of L2 Education (Fall 2026)

About the role

The Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) at McGill University seeks a Course Lecturer for the Fall 2026 term to teach EDSL 300 – Foundations of L2 Education. This 3‑credit, on‑site course provides pre‑service teachers with an interdisciplinary overview of second‑language teaching.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver weekly lectures and lead classroom activities on linguistic, psychological, sociological, and educational perspectives of L2 teaching.
• Prepare and grade assignments, assessments, and provide feedback to students.
• Participate in course coordination and planning meetings at least two weeks before the start date.
• Integrate equity, diversity, and inclusion principles into teaching practice.
• Utilize myCourses, Zoom, and other digital tools to support blended learning.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Second Language Education or a related field (exceptional candidates without a Master’s may be considered).
• Teaching degree or equivalent in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL); a PhD is an asset.
• Demonstrated expert knowledge of L2 teaching foundations, history of methods, and current approaches.
• Familiarity with the Quebec Education Program (QEP) for ESL and experience teaching ESL in Quebec elementary/secondary schools.
• Commitment to collaborative work with a team of instructors.

Required skills

• Proficiency with myCourses platform.
• Experience using Zoom for instructional purposes.
• Ability to apply a variety of digital teaching and learning tools.
